HYBRID SOLAR SYSTEMS
A Hybrid configuration uses of batteries to store energy to use in the evening or when brown-outs occur.
The batteries that Filipinos normally use for hybrid solar set-ups are not the same as car batteries. They need to be able to maintain their functionality even after being significantly drained. These lead-acid “deep-cycle” batteries are currently very expensive and need to be replaced after 3-4 years. The cost to use them generally offsets the savings-generated by solar.
Lithium-Ion batteries that have a longer lifespan are being produced by companies like LG and Tesla for electric cars and solar users. Unfortunately, they are still too expensive for PHINMA Solar to incorporate them into its offerings.
The inverters of hybrid solar systems can be programmed to prioritize a specific energy source based on existing circumstances
